Due to their natural texture and environmentally friendly properties, wooden products are widely used in furniture, crafts, and everyday utensils. However, wood is susceptible to moisture, temperature, and external forces. If not properly cared for, it can easily crack, warp, or mildew. Mastering scientific maintenance methods can effectively extend the lifespan of wooden products and preserve their beauty and practicality.

First, controlling ambient humidity is crucial. Wood absorbs moisture and tends to swell and warp in humid environments, while dry conditions can cause cracking. It is recommended to store wooden products in an environment with a relative humidity of 40% to 60%, avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heating. In winter, a humidifier can be used to adjust the indoor humidity, while in summer, ventilation and moisture-proofing are essential.

Second, regular cleaning and oiling and waxing are essential maintenance steps. For daily cleaning, use a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid using chemical cleaners or harsh brushes to avoid damaging the surface. For long-term wooden furniture, apply specialized wood wax or furniture wax every three to six months to replenish oils, enhance the gloss, and form a protective layer. Before applying wax, ensure the surface is dust-free. Apply evenly and let it sit for a few moments before wiping.

It's also important to avoid external damage. Wooden items should be handled with care to avoid scratches from sharp objects. When moving furniture, lift it off the ground rather than dragging it to prevent wear and tear on the base or loosening of the structure. Wooden items that frequently come into contact with water, such as tea trays or tableware, should be dried promptly after use to prevent moisture from penetrating and causing deformation or mold.

Finally, regular inspection and repair are essential. If minor cracks or looseness are observed in wooden items, they should be repaired promptly. Minor cracks can be treated with wood wax or a specialized filler, while more severe damage requires professional repair. Through scientific maintenance, wooden items not only maintain their original texture but also enhance their durability and artistic value, adding a natural and warm atmosphere to your life.
